About Barton's IMDs - Helping The Mentally Ill
The Barton group of IMDs provides high quality intermediate and long term inpatient psychiatric and psychosocial rehabilitative services to adults between 18 and 59 with severe, persistent mental illness.
All of Barton's Chicagoland facilities are designated by the State of Illinois as Demonstration Projects designed to provide state of art services to adults who suffer from severe mental illness. Our philosophy seeks to assist residents and their families in acquiring the knowledge and understanding of one's disability/illness so that the resident
and his family can move from a life defined by the devastating effects of illness to one defined by activities for rediscovering and or creating a valued life role. The Barton philosophy focuses upon skill building, support development, cognitive assessment, and self help as tools for increasing an individual's chances for success and satisfaction in self-determined goals.
An array of services is offered at each facility including mutual support, assistance with problems of daily living and self help groups.
We encourage our residents to learn to manage their illness and prepare themselves to attain the level of physical and emotional stability and safety required to move ahead to outpatient treatment. Barton's independent living environment and staff resources help to develop a realistic discharge plan for our residents leading to an improved quality of life in the community.
